Recent Work
We're working on a brand new website right now. In the meantime here is an update with some of our recent work listed:
1.
MAJOR HOUSING DEVELOPMENT PORTSMOUTH, £100M, @RIBA 3
500 homes in a new-build and neighbourhood regeneration project for Portsmouth City Council. Working with the architect-led multidisciplinary team to achieve full Passivhaus certification on all homes.
Air Permeability target: 0.6m3/m2/hr@50Pa
2.
MAJOR STUDENT HOUSING SCHEME, CANARY WHARF, LONDON, £210M, @RIBA 4
Three towers of student accommodation; office and retail will house 1000 students. This is set to be one of the largest Passivhaus schemes in the Western hemisphere.
As Sub-consultants to Henriksen Studio, we helped set the Passivhaus target in motion with an early-stage feasibility study. Then we built a team to run the Passivhaus assessment and refine the MEP design and airtightness strategy from RIBA stage 2 to 4.
Air Permeability target: 0.6m3/m2/hr@50Pa
3.
LARGE STUDENT HOUSING SCHEME, NINE ELMS, LONDON, £110M, @RIBA 4
Four large blocks of student accommodation; office and retail will house 500 students. This is another large Passivhaus scheme with the same client as the Canary Wharf scheme. The repetition is allowing us to refine our design approach on each subsequent project.
As Sub-consultants to Henriksen Studio, we helped set the Passivhaus target in motion with an early-stage feasibility study. Then we built a team to run the Passivhaus assessment and refine the MEP design and airtightness strategy from RIBA stage 2 to 4.

4.
MEDIUM SCALE HOUSING FOR BRIGHTER HOMES BRISTOL, £20M, @RIBA 5
This is 36 homes to full Passivhaus; we provided MEP consultancy to achieve comfortable desirable social housing. Heat and hot water is generated by an innovative yet robust communal ambient loop drawing heat from a ground source array.

5.
MEDIUM SCALE HOUSING FOR TOWER HAMLETS, £Various, @ Various upto RIBA 5
Optimised design can go even further through repeat work; we have worked on five such schemes with this client. All are near-Passivhaus design, most will use communal ground source heat pumps to provide low carbon ‘future-proof’ heat with minimum maintenance burden.

12.
Sands End, Complete

Havelock, £500k, Complete
With funding from the Mayor of London’s Good growth by design scheme, this is a high quality intervention into an otherwise deprived West London community. Community facilities such as a canoe club, kindergarten, meeting and events spaces have been carefully inserted into an unloved 1970s garage undercroft. The MEP proposals are refined and legible yet discrete. They are highly robust yet efficient to run.

For 2 years Bertie was employed by SIGA, a Swiss manufacturer of high-quality airtightness tapes, membranes and adhesives, to write about airtightness in construction. The monthly articles involved research into projects, techniques, products and regulations. The style was informative yet accessible to a wide audience.
